Mysterious. Magnificent. Moonstone.
If you have been searching for a moonstone ring sterling silver Australia that truly captures what moonstone is about, this is the one. The Moonstone Hammered Wrap Ring sets a natural 7x5mm moonstone cabochon into a wide beaten sterling silver band that tapers from 20mm at the front to 9mm at the back. When light hits the stone, blue flashes through it, that signature phenomenon called adularescence, which gives moonstone its otherworldly, almost alive quality. No photograph fully captures it. You have to see it move.
The moonstone cabochon has a soft, translucent shimmer that contrasts against the bright hammered silver beautifully. The beaten band is hand-hammered, which means it catches the light constantly and gives the ring a liveliness that a plain polished band simply does not have. Because both the stone and the band are natural and handcrafted, no two rings will ever be identical.
Moonstone has long been associated with feminine energy, intuition and calm. It is the June birthstone and carries a reputation as a stone of new beginnings, which makes it a meaningful gift as well as a beautiful one.
The ring comes in three sizes, each adjusting across a couple of sizes, covering the full range from size 5 to size 13, including plus sizes from size 10.
Wear it with the Mesmeric Moonstone Earrings for a complete look.

Sizing
The Moonstone Hammered Wrap Ring comes in three sizes, each covering a range of a couple of sizes, spanning the full range from size 5 to size 13. Select the size range closest to your finger at checkout. Plus sizes are available from size 10 through to size 13.
Once you receive your ring, ease it gently to your ideal fit. We recommend adjusting it as little as possible from that point, as repeated bending can weaken the band over time. If you are unsure of your size, our ring sizing guide and how to measure your ring size article will walk you through it.
Care
Moonstone is a softer gemstone than most, sitting at around 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, so it benefits from a little extra care. Keep your ring away from perfume, hairspray, chlorine and harsh chemicals. Remove it before swimming, showering or any activity where it might take a knock. Store it separately from harder stones that could scratch the surface of the moonstone or the silver band.
To restore the shine on the hammered silver, buff it with a Desiderate silver jewellery polishing cloth. Clean the moonstone gently with a soft damp cloth only, no ultrasonic cleaners.
FAQ
Q1. What is the blue flash in moonstone and will my ring have it?
The blue flash in moonstone is called adularescence. It is caused by light scattering between microscopic layers of feldspar minerals within the stone, creating a glowing, floating light effect that shifts as the stone moves. Most natural moonstones will show some degree of adularescence, though the intensity and colour of the flash varies from stone to stone. Because Desiderate uses natural moonstone, your ring will have its own individual character.
Q2. What does moonstone look like?
Moonstone has a soft, translucent, milky-white body with a luminous inner glow. When light hits it at the right angle, blue or sometimes silver light appears to float just beneath the surface. The stone almost appears to move. It is one of the most distinctive looking gemstones in the world, and very hard to describe to someone who has not seen it in person.
Q3. Is the moonstone in this ring natural?
Yes. The moonstone is a genuine, earth-mined natural cabochon. No treatment, no synthetic substitutes. Because it is natural, each stone will have its own unique combination of translucency, blue flash and surface character. Your ring will be individual to you.
Q4. What is a cabochon cut?
A cabochon is a stone that has been shaped and polished into a smooth, domed surface rather than being faceted with flat cuts. Moonstone is almost always cut as a cabochon because the smooth dome is what allows the adularescence to be seen to best effect. A faceted moonstone would break up the floating light effect that makes the stone so special.
Q5. How does the sizing work?
The ring comes in three sizes, each covering a range of a couple of sizes, spanning the full range from size 5 to size 13. Select the size range that suits your finger at checkout. Once it arrives, ease it gently to your ideal fit. Our ring sizing guide will help you find your size before ordering.
Q6. Is this ring available in plus sizes?
Yes. Plus sizes are available from size 10 through to size 13. Select the appropriate size range at checkout.
Q7. Can I adjust the band myself?
Yes, gently. The open band can be eased to fit your finger within its size range. We recommend finding your comfortable fit and leaving it there. Repeatedly bending the band can weaken the metal over time, so minimal adjustment is the right approach.
Q8. What are the spiritual or healing properties of moonstone?
Moonstone is associated with feminine energy, intuition, and calm. It is often called the stone of new beginnings and is believed to support emotional balance and inner reflection. It is the birthstone for June and is connected with the zodiac sign Cancer. It has been used in jewellery for centuries across many cultures and carries a rich history of being considered a sacred, protective stone. Whether you wear it for its energy or purely for its beauty, it has a quality that is hard to explain but easy to feel.
Q9. Is moonstone a durable stone for everyday wear?
Moonstone sits at around 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, which makes it softer than stones like sapphire or topaz. It is fine for regular wear with sensible care. Remove it before activities involving impact, chemicals or prolonged water exposure. Store it away from harder stones that could scratch the surface. With basic care it will stay beautiful for a long time.
Q10. How wide is the band and how does it sit on the finger?
The band tapers from 20mm at the widest point where the stone sits to 9mm at the narrowest point at the back. It is a wide, substantial ring that makes a real statement. The taper means the back of the band is comfortable and does not feel bulky, while the front gives the stone plenty of presence on the hand.
Q11. Is the band really hand hammered?
Yes. The beaten texture is applied by hand, which means each band has its own individual pattern of light reflection. It is not a machine-applied finish. This handcrafted quality, combined with the natural variation of the moonstone, means no two rings will ever be exactly the same.
Q12. What other moonstone jewellery does Desiderate make?
Desiderate has an extensive moonstone jewellery collection. The Mesmeric Moonstone Earrings pair beautifully with this ring. Browse the full Desiderate moonstone collection to see everything available.
